چکیده

for PSA failure ( P < 0.001; hazard ratio, HR, 2.6), need for salvage therapy ( P < 0.001; HR, 2.9) and specific deaths ( P = 0.006; HR, 3.7). The 5-year RFS was 84.4% in men with negative margins compared to 57.5% in the case of PSM. • After stratification by pathological stage and Gleason score, margin status was significantly predictive for PSA failure in pT2 ( P < 0.001), pT3a ( P = 0.001) and/or Gleason score ≤ 7 cancers ( P < 0.001), whereas the impact of PSM did not reach significance in pT3b ( P = 0.196), pT4 ( P = 0.061) and/or Gleason score ≥ 8 cancers ( P = 0.115). Impact of positive surgical margins after radical prostatectomy.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of margin positivity in clinically and pathologically localized prostate cancer (pT2) after radical prostatectomy on biochemical recurrence and time to adjuvant treatment. We analyzed data from 371 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy. At the mean follow up of 36 (25-54) months, impact of margin positivity in pT2 patients on prostate speci...

Impact of positive surgical margins on prostate-specific antigen failure after radical prostatectomy in adjuvant treatment-naïve patients.

STUDY TYPE Therapy (case series). LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 4. What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Despite excellent surgical cancer control, up to 40% of patients will have biochemical recurrence following radical prostatectomy (RP) for localized prostate cancer. Positive surgical margins (PSM) have been clearly demonstrated to be one of the main predictive factors for biochemi...

Anatomic site-specific positive margins in organ-confined prostate cancer and its impact on outcome after radical prostatectomy.

OBJECTIVES The impact of a positive surgical margin in otherwise confined prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy remains unclear. We analyzed the outcome of a large number of patients with organ-confined prostate cancer according to the presence and anatomic site of margin positivity. METHODS We evaluated 2712 prostatectomy patients with Stage pT2N0 cancer (ie, no evidence of extra-prost...

Long-term impact of positive surgical margins on biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy: ten years of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE Positive surgical margins (PSMs) in men undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer are associated with an increased risk of biochemical recurrence. This study evaluated the long-term (>10 year) impact of PSMs on biochemical recurrence after RP in adjuvant treatment-naïve pT2-pT4 N0 men and determined predictors of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) failure. MATERIAL AND ...

Impact of positive surgical margins after radical prostatectomy differs by disease risk group.

PURPOSE Positive surgical margins have a negative impact on disease outcomes after radical prostatectomy, yet their prognostic value may vary depending on specific pathological characteristics. We examined the relationship of positive surgical margins to biochemical progression according to several clinicopathological features. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analyzed data from 1,268 patients who un...
